What to expect in Las Vegas

By Ken Monzingo

With the Las Vegas Summer NABC approaching fast (July 17-27), those of you who heeded the warnings and got your room reservations made are in for some real treats. Those still deciding if they want to stay at the Las Vegas Hilton should make that final effort right now, for later will be too late.

Rooms have been selling at a record pace, and not slowing down. Don’t get left out of the biggest party of the decade! Go online now to www.LasVegasNABC2008.com

There may still be time, but beware ... we aren’t the only show in town! Don’t let another association get your Hilton room!

Do not treat this warning as “sold out.” There are more hotel rooms in Las Vegas than any city in the world, and I’m sure MegaHousing will be directing the flow to other properties for the late comers (877 350-2479). But I for one really believe you should, if possible, stay in the Hilton where all the action is, and the price is right.

Wherever you stay, come on down ... the party’s on. Get ready for the glitz and glitter of the world’s most famous city, enjoy the soft 50’s-60’s dance music of Elvis and gang, and, of course, those enormous numbers of brackets in the KOs!

Schedule

To add to your Las Vegas experience we’ve changed the bridge scheduling somewhat. Regional events - including pairs - will all be played in 24-board movements. Well, that’s not much of a change since regional Knockout Teams and most regional Swiss Teams events are already playing 24-board sessions. But we’ve added the pairs games to lessen their hours at the table and allow for more leisure in this unique city. Also, those who play in pairs will have approximately the same dinner hour as team players so you can join more friends for the great array of sumptuous restaurants this desert paradise offers.

For players who really want to “hit the tables of LV” we have 10:00 a.m & 3:00 p.m. early pairs games every day. These are all regional rated Open Pairs, no restrictions on age, so higher gold point payoffs.

After Hours

Elvis is Coming! Elvis will perform concerts on the first Friday and Saturday late evenings, right in the playing area. The live music of this legendary entertainer of our youth will be accompanied by his backup band and a couple of sizzling showgirls.

Now that’s Las Vegas!

For the remainder of the tournament we’ll have late evening mello dance music nightly with guest DJ Rick Roeder of San Diego, who published a history of rock & roll in the early years, providing artist insight and commentary.
