I have an extensive collection of Bridge World magazines which date back all the way to the 1950s. Browsing through them gives me a lot of fascinating bridge material to tap when I am looking for examples useful in teaching. This months hand is a variation of one which ran in the Bridge World of July, 1987, and it seems a fitting setup to start off the New Year.
I often use the analogy of peeling the skin off an onion to examine the layer beneath when discussing hand analysis. Be warned that this is such a hand, and dont be too hasty in making your decision on whether to play or defend.
When you check your answer against the solution Click Here, I reserve the right to send you back here to the original problem, to peel off another layer!
