This month’s hand ... from the Wernher Open Pairs of the Las Vegas Nationals ... was sent to me by a reader who noted that the double-dummy program used at that tournament stated that N/S could make 7NT, whichever member of the partnership became the declarer. The contributor said that he tried to visualize the successful line of play which would make that possible, but couldn’t come up with the solution. Frustrated, he went to bed ... only to wake up in the wee hours of the morning with the solution clear in his mind!

Readers, I’m sure that you can do as well: your job is to take all the tricks N-S against the best defense that the opponents can muster. Try your luck by laying out the hand and fiddling with the cards, and maybe you will be able to spot the correct answer without having to rely on your subconscious to do it for you.

But remember ... there is no shame in giving it a night’s sleep before throwing in the towel and looking up the answer Click Here!
